Our work at this advanced animal research facility began in the 1960's when we installed the HVAC systems for the original building. In the 1980's, we returned as a prime contractor to upgrade a portion of the facility to the most stringent construction standards in existence at the time for the containment of deadly diseases. Our work included all of the modifications required to bio-seal the facility. Later, we installed self-funding energy upgrades, and constructed a new laboratory. We’ve continued with projects on an ongoing basis as the facility evolves – most recently a five-year, $430 million upgrade of the site. The program, which expanded the central utility plant, added a bio-waste treatment plant, and centralized multiple laboratories and research centers, had the highest priority from the federal government to protect the nation's food supply. The latest phase completed on schedule in 2009 is the 600,000 square-foot Consolidated Laboratory Facility that includes BSL-2 and BSL-3 Laboratories, and animal vivarium.
