This facility, situated on 1,476 acres, was new construction of a 750-bed medium security prison. The precast building has five cell blocks, a central chiller-boiler plant, administration building, support building and warehouse. It was the precursor to the Fort Dodge Correctional Facility, which we began a year after this job. As its virtual twin, The Waldinger Corporation successfully bid the subsequent Fort Dodge project at a price 5% lower than Newton's prison. This is an excellent example of how we reduce costs by continually improving our processes and capitalizing on efficiencies.
